How to fix and convert subtitles

    1. Load an SRT or VTT file, or paste the subtitles. The tool reads both formats and shows how many cues it found.
    2. Pick a timing fix: Shift moves every line by the same amount, Two-point sync corrects subtitles that drift further out of time as the video goes on.
    3. Choose any clean-up options and the output format: SRT, VTT or a plain transcript.
    4. Check the preview, then download the file or copy the result.

When to use shift or two-point sync

A constant offset happens when the video has an intro the subtitles don’t account for, or the file was made for a different cut. Shift fixes it in one step.

Drift, where the gap grows over time, happens when the subtitles were timed for a different frame rate, for example 25 fps instead of 23.976 fps. Two-point sync measures the error at the start and at the end and stretches every timestamp in between, which corrects frame-rate drift exactly.

    Subtitles for social video

    • Keep each cue to one or two short lines. On vertical video, long lines wrap and cover the frame.
    • Remove sound descriptions if you burn captions into the video for viewers who watch muted but can hear the audio when they unmute.
    • Check that burned-in captions sit inside the safe zone so the app interface doesn’t hide them.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I fix subtitles that are out of sync?

If every line is early or late by the same amount, use Shift and enter the offset in seconds: a positive number delays the subtitles, a negative one makes them appear earlier. If the gap grows over the video, use Two-point sync and give the correct time for one line near the start and one near the end.

How do I convert SRT to VTT?

Load or paste your SRT file, choose WebVTT as the output format and download. The tool adds the WEBVTT header and switches the comma in timestamps to a dot, which is the only structural difference between the two formats.

Which format should I upload to YouTube, TikTok or Instagram?

YouTube accepts both SRT and VTT. Most video editors such as Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and CapCut import SRT. VTT is the standard for web video players.

Can I get a plain transcript from subtitles?

Yes. Choose Plain text as the output. The timestamps and numbering are removed and the lines are joined into paragraphs you can paste into a blog post or video description.

Is there a file size limit?

No. The file is processed by your browser, so there is no upload and no limit beyond your device’s memory. Nothing is sent to a server.

Why do my subtitles show strange characters?

The file is probably saved in an older encoding such as Windows-1252. The tool tries UTF-8 first and falls back to Windows-1252 automatically, and the file you download is always UTF-8.
